HOLY SPIRIT SCHOOL

 

A Catholic school of the Diocese of Allentown, Holy Spirit School serves preschool to 8th grade students in its elementary and middle school buildings located in the city of Allentown. Holy Spirit offers a culturally diverse student body in a small class setting and is a wonderful place for children to grow academically and spiritually.

 

Our caring, talented and experienced faculty of lay people and a religious sister are dedicated to the development of the student.Each child is seen as an individual with unique talents and strengths.

 

The school day begins and ends with prayer as each child is guided on his or her spiritual journey. A personal relationship with the Lord is encouraged and nurtured.

 

The intellectual development of each student is encouraged through a challenging curriculum consisting of mathemathics, reading, social studies, science, computer instruction, as well as music, art and literature.

 

ACADEMICS

 

RELIGION

 

Religion is taught daily and the children participate at monthly mass. Children are taught Catholic prayers to enhance their spiritual life. Students are also prepared for the Sacrements of Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation at the appropriate grade level.

 

INTEGRATED LANGUAGE ARTS

 

Holy Spirit School offers an integrated language arts program that includes reading, phonics, grammar and spelling in grades K to 6, while literature , grammar and spelling are taught in the 7th and 8th grades. Children are encouraged to learn at a comfortable but challenging pace, with an eye on achieving at highest possible level.

 

MATH

 

The Pennsylvania state standards for Math are followed along with Diocese of Allentown's Math priority list. Children have the opportunity participate in various activities outside of the regular math program such as MathCounts and 24 Challenge.

 

SCIENCE

 

The science curriculum at Holy Spirit School is "hands-on" at all grade levels. The "Windows on Science" program is also used. Earth science, life science and physical science are taught in 6th to 8th grade.

 

COMPUTER INSTRUCTION

 

Holy Spirit School has a "state-of-art" computer lab with networked computers in our elementary and middle school. Computer Explorers provides the instruction for children in K to 8th grade.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES

 

In the primary and middle school grades, this subject uses various instructional techniques, including hand-on materials and state of the art textbooks for students in the middle school.

 

MUSIC

 

Children love to express their creative side. All grades are taught music appreciation while our 4th through 8th grade students learn Instrumental Music. Our music program is very popular with the students.

 

MORE THAN ACADEMICS

 

ATHLETICS

 

In gym class, all children participate in a variety of sports and physical activities.Teamwork, sportsmanship and a healthy competitive spirit are encouraged.

 

AUXILARY SERVICES

 

Remedial services for reading, speech and mathematics are available. Children who need extra help in these areas are provided one-on-one assistance.

 

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITES

 

Numerous activities are available for the students such as: Altar servers, prayer partners, music lessons, student council, school yearbook, football, basketball, intramural sports and CYO scholastic and cultural events.

 

SCHOOL COMMUNITY

 

As a school community we strive to provide an atmosphere of love, patience and self-respect by stressing the importance of courtesy and kindness. A code of conduct is enforced to assist the student in developing Christian attitudes and sound character, to promote responsibility and citizenship, and to promote self-control and self-discipline.
